Happy Friday, October 10th!
We made it through another busy week, and the weekend is knocking with all the best fall vibes: cool air, cozy plans, and plenty happening around town. Whether you’re grabbing a pumpkin treat, heading to a festival, or just enjoying a slow weekend, there’s no shortage of ways to soak in October.
In today’s South Side Scoop:
👟 The Franklin Township Civic League is just 700 pairs away from its 3,000-pair goal in this year’s community shoe drive. Donations accepted through October 31st.
🏋️ Franklin College breaks ground Friday on a $9.5 million renovation of its historic fitness center, marking a major milestone in campus upgrades.
🌮 Greenwood’s newest restaurant, Verde – Flavors of Mexico, is already earning rave reviews (and maybe the best quesadillas in town).
Let’s get to it!
THE DIGEST
Help Support the Franklin Township Shoe Drive
The Franklin Township Civic League is collecting new and gently used shoes of all types and sizes to support Changing Footprints, South Indy which donates footwear to people in need locally and around the world. Donations can be dropped off at the Franklin Road Library (5550 S Franklin Rd, Indianapolis) through October 31st, or anytime at Shear Creations (8621 Southeastern Ave, Indianapolis) and during business hours at Mascari Cleaners (8845 Southeastern Ave, Indianapolis). The Civic League’s goal is to collect 3,000 pairs of shoes this year and they’re only about 700 pairs away from reaching it!
Franklin College Breaks Ground on Elwood Fitness Center Renovation
Franklin College is set to begin a major transformation of its historic fitness center with a groundbreaking ceremony this Friday, Oct. 10th, at 1:30 p.m. on Grizzly Drive. The $9.5 million renovation, made possible by a naming gift from alumni Amber and John Elwood, will modernize the early-1900s facility while preserving its architectural charm. Once complete, the reimagined Elwood Fitness Center will provide updated spaces for student fitness, recreation, and athletics, including new locker rooms and offices for several sports teams. Building renderings will be on display during the ceremony.
