THE DIGEST
Bargersville Fire Chief Returns to Duty After Life-Saving Recovery
Bargersville Fire Chief Eric Funkhouser is back on duty part-time after a seizure on Labor Day weekend led to the discovery of a brain tumor. Following surgery, a 13-day hospital stay, and three months of recovery, he’s working toward returning full-time next month. His twin sons, Dylan and Caleb, both firefighters, are inspired by his determination and strength. Grateful for the care and support he received, Funkhouser calls the seizure that revealed the tumor a life-saving event. Welcome back, Chief Funkhouser—your resilience is an inspiration to the community!
A Heartfelt Thanks to Deputy Tomey and Deputy Love
A big shoutout to Deputy Tomey and Deputy Love from the Johnson County Sheriff's Department for making one little future police officer’s Christmas so special! Their visit to see a 5-year-old aspiring officer brought big smiles and lasting memories—complete with a thoughtful gift to top it all off. Your kindness and dedication to our community truly make a difference!
BSA Troop 104 Christmas Tree Pickup Fundraiser
Got a live Christmas tree you don’t want to deal with after the holidays? Let the scouts of Troop 104 take care of it for you! For a freewill donation (suggested $20), they’ll pick up your tree from your porch or curb (ornaments and tinsel removed) and recycle it into mulch. Your donation supports these scouts in attending summer camp, where they’ll earn merit badges, develop life skills, and create lasting memories. Pickup is available in zip codes 46239, 46259, 46203, 46107, 46227, and 46237. For questions, contact Michael Larmour at 317-775-9368 or sign up here.

LOCAL BUSINESS
The Burnt-Out Baker Bids Farewell
After two wonderful years, The Burnt-Out Baker will be closing it’s doors on February 15 due to a tough year for small businesses and personal changes. The owner is deeply grateful for the community’s support, smiles, and loyalty throughout this journey. While this chapter is ending, they believe the space holds great potential for a larger bakery or coffee shop and invite anyone interested in taking over to reach out at [email protected]. Thank you for making these years unforgettable!
