Friday Night Lights: Only Three Teams in Action, Sectional Games on November 1!

Looks like we got a little ahead of ourselves in the Wednesday edition! Only three teams are hitting the field this Friday, October 25: Greenwood, Roncalli, and Greenwood Christian. The rest of the matchups, including the games for Center Grove, Franklin, Whiteland, Southport, Perry, and Franklin Central, will take place on November 1. So, circle that date and get ready for a big football weekend next week! We'll be back with all the details in next Wednesday's edition.

Launch Johnson County’s Fall Pitch is Tuesday

Franklin is buzzing with excitement for the Fall Pitch competition, hosted by LAUNCH Johnson County on Tuesday, October 29 at Franklin College’s Custer Theatre. Six local entrepreneurs will pitch their business ideas to a panel of local ā€œcelebrityā€ judges, competing for a $10,000 prize to jumpstart their dreams. Registration is open at franklincoc.org/launch.

Johnson County Burn Ban

Johnson County has reinstated a burn ban effective through midnight on October 30. Open burning of wood, debris, and fireworks is prohibited, though propane and charcoal grills are still allowed. Just make sure any charcoal is completely extinguished before disposal! Stay safe and fire-smart, neighbors!

Sakura Hibachi Express Coming to Town

Sakura Hibachi Express is opening up a new restaurant at the corner of 135 & Smokey Row, in the same strip as Antilogy and Energy Spot. It is in the former location of Fish & Loaves. There is no timetable on when the restaurant will be opening, but indoor renovations have begun.

Meadowbrook Development Tabled for a Special Meeting in Bargersville

The proposed 130-acre Meadowbrook development in Bargersville has sparked concerns among officials over drainage, land dedication, and townhome layouts. After multiple revisions, including reducing the number of units and adding community features like a park and collector road, the Plan Commission delayed a final decision until a special meeting on November 4.

Pridgeon & Clay Closing Franklin Plant

Pridgeon & Clay Inc., a Grand Rapids-based manufacturer, is closing its Franklin plant, affecting 125 workers. While a specific closure date hasn’t been provided, the company began layoffs earlier this year and expects the closure to be permanent. The 76,000-square-foot facility specialized in lighter gauge stamping.

Final Friday in Old Town Greenwood

Old Town Greenwood will come alive during this month's Final Friday. Get ready for a full day of fall fun in downtown Franklin! The day kicks off with the Rock the Block walk at 9 a.m., followed by the Halloween Hustle 5K run/walk and 1-mile family walk at 10 a.m., with costumes encouraged for all!

Later, head to the amphitheater for the Dachshund Derby at 2:30 p.m. and the Howl-o-ween pet costume contest at 4 p.m. Family fun continues from 3 to 5 p.m. with kids' activities, including lawn games and crafts. Trick-or-treating from downtown shops and decorated trunks starts at 5:30 p.m., and the day wraps up with a Corey Cox concert from 6 to 8 p.m.. Don't miss out!

Greenwood Halloween Parade

Join in the Halloween fun with a spirited parade through downtown Greenwood! The parade kicks off at Craig Park, heads west along Main Street, turns south on Madison Avenue, loops back east on Surina Way, and finishes where it started at Craig Park. Spectators are encouraged to wear costumes and line the route to collect candy along the way!

Whiteland Elementary School Craft Fair
