Happy New Year, friends! 🎉

It's our first newsletter of 2026, and we’re easing into it with just one edition this week. Events are still slow, and honestly, we all deserve a soft start. Now that we’re a year and a half into this little newsletter adventure, I’ll be evaluating what works best for you (our awesome readers) and for me as a solo-writer and stay-at-home mom. Thanks for sticking with me; here’s to another year of sharing stories, events, and all things Southside!

In today’s South Side Scoop:

  • 🏆️ Indiana Miss Amazing is seeking volunteers for its February 21st event supporting girls and women with disabilities, with roles ranging from participant buddies to hair, makeup, and photography.

  • 🎄 Christmas Acres wrapped up a record-breaking season in Franklin, donating nearly 4,000 pounds of food and over $1,900 to the Interchurch Food Pantry.

  • 🧑‍🏫 Future Indiana educators can now apply for the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship, offering up to $40,000 toward college in exchange for teaching in Indiana.

Let’s get to it!

DIGEST

Volunteers Needed: Indiana Miss Amazing

Indiana Miss Amazing is looking for volunteers to help make a meaningful day possible for girls and women with disabilities during their upcoming event on February 21st at Jeremiah Gray Elementary School. Volunteers are needed for a variety of roles, including participant buddies, hair and makeup helpers, photographers, and videographers. The program also welcomes participants ages 5 and up with proof of disability, making this a great opportunity to share with families who may be interested. If you’re looking for a rewarding way to give back (or know someone who is), help spread the word and learn more at missamazing.org or by reaching out to the Indiana Miss Amazing team directly.

Christmas Acres Wraps Up a Record-Breaking Season of Giving

Christmas Acres in Franklin has officially wrapped up its 2025 season and the impact was incredible. Thanks to the generosity of visitors, the display helped donate 3,885 pounds of food and more than $1,900 to the Interchurch Food Pantry of Johnson County through four weekly deliveries. With 163,000 twinkling lights and over 1,000 vehicles stopping by, this year set records for visitors, donations, and holiday cheer. A huge thank-you to the Christmas Acres family and community for truly living out their message: Be the Light in this World.

Scholarship Opportunity for Future Indiana Teachers

Indiana students planning a career in education can now apply for the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship, which provides $10,000 per year for up to four years. The scholarship is open to Indiana high school seniors and current college students who commit to teaching in Indiana for at least five years after graduation. Eligible students must meet academic requirements, attend an approved Indiana college or university, and complete the FAFSA annually. Applications are due February 28th, and more information is available at scholartrack.che.in.gov.
