TOGETHER WITH

It’s Wednesday, June 18th and if your days are starting to blur together like ice cream on hot pavement, you’re not alone.

Summer’s moving fast, but there’s still plenty of time (and daylight!) to soak up all the local fun. Whether you're juggling camps, concerts, or just trying to stay on top of your plants and your inbox, we’ve got your midweek scoop right here.

In today’s South Side Scoop:

  • šŸƒā€ā™‚ļø Franklin Central’s Rylan Hainje breaks two state track records in one meet—only the 4th athlete to do so since 1925!

  • šŸ¦† Franklin firefighters rescue a duck family from a storm drain (yes, it’s as cute as it sounds).

  • šŸ¦ A young Whiteland entrepreneur launches Carter’s Pops—an ice cream bike cart bringing sweet vibes to your street!

Let’s get to it!

THE DIGEST

Franklin Central’s Rylan Hainje Hurdles Into the Record Books

Franklin Central’s Rylan Hainje has been named the Hoosier Crossroads Conference Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year after a record-breaking season. The junior set new HCC and IHSAA state meet records in both the 110m and 300m hurdles, clocking times of 13.275 and 35.82 seconds, respectively. Hainje is now just the fourth athlete since 1925 to set two state records in the same meet. Coach Josh Pierson praised Rylan’s dedication and hard work over the past year. Congratulations on an amazing season, Rylan!

Franklin Firefighters Quack the Case: Ducklings Rescued from Storm Drain

The Franklin Fire Department melted hearts this week after rescuing a mama duck and her five tiny ducklings from a storm drain downtown. Talk about bringing the ā€œFive Little Ducksā€ nursery rhyme to life! Photos show firefighters gently retrieving the ducklings one by one, reuniting them safely with their very relieved mom. Just last month, Bargersville’s crew pulled a kitten from a fuel tank… now Franklin’s saving baby ducks. At this rate, who knows what’s next…puppies in a tree? Thanks for all your hard and kind work Franklin Fire!
