Hands-On STEM Exploration: Students Dive Into Tech at Endress+Hauser

The Community Career Education Forum at Endress+Hauser in Greenwood gave students an exciting hands-on experience with STEM. Over 400 kids explored welding in virtual reality, programmed robots, and watched 3-D printers bring models to life. Local businesses, schools, and volunteers showcased a wide range of STEM careers, from engineering to healthcare, while booths offered interactive experiments like coding and pressure-testing. With nearly 300 community partners and volunteers, the event inspired young minds to explore the endless possibilities in science, technology, engineering, and math, making it a must-attend for STEM enthusiasts.

Johnson County Schools Receive $397K for Safety Enhancements

Johnson County schools received over $397,000 in state grants through Indiana’s Secured School Safety Grant Program, part of a $24 million initiative to enhance school security across 499 schools. Local districts, including Center Grove, Franklin, and Clark-Pleasant, will use the funds for technology upgrades, resource officers, and threat assessments. Supported by area lawmakers, this funding helps schools address specific safety needs, with flexibility to implement measures that best protect students and staff. Since 2013, Indiana has allocated $187 million for school safety grants.

Construction Causes Suds Drive-In Closure Amid Market Plaza Renovations

The Suds Drive-In in Greenwood has temporarily closed due to construction at Market Plaza, which has reduced their sales by 75%. Nearby businesses like Jockamo Pizza remain open, though construction has impacted customer traffic. The city is improving pedestrian and vehicle safety with new sidewalks, streetlights, and storm sewers, but the project is taking longer than expected, with completion set for the end of October. Business owners are urging customers to continue supporting local shops during the disruption.

Johnson County August Home Sales Figures

In August, 242 homes went pending in Johnson County, a 15.8% month-to-month change and a 3.2% year-to-date change.

There were 421 active listings in August, a 50.9% increase from the 279 listings in August of 2023.

The average sale price for August was $279,928, down 17.2% from August of last year.
