THE DIGEST
Indianaâs iLab Coalition Unveils Statewide Apprenticeship Plan
Indianaâs iLab coalition has unveiled a statewide apprenticeship plan designed to offer high school students more work-based learning opportunities starting in the 2025-2026 school year. This initiative addresses workforce shortages by combining classroom instruction with paid, hands-on experience, potentially benefiting up to 50,000 students by 2034. The program, modeled after Switzerlandâs apprenticeship system, targets industries with high demand, such as healthcare, manufacturing, and IT. The plan seeks to create a talent pipeline while offering an alternative to the traditional high school-to-college path.
Perry Township Included in Security Funding
The Indiana Secured School Safety Board approved $24 million in funding for nearly 500 schools across the state to enhance security. The grants will support 506 projects, with $16 million going toward school resource officers, $5 million for security equipment, and $3.8 million allocated to schools in Marion County. Schools in Perry Township will use the funds to improve safety measures such as hiring resource officers and upgrading communication systems.
WTHRâs "Send the Love" Campaign
WTHRâs "Send the Love" campaign encourages Hoosiers to support central Indiana nonprofits by donating just $5. Every Monday, a featured nonprofit is highlighted, aiming to show how small contributions can make a big impact. You can nominate a local nonprofit for consideration by emailing [email protected]. This week, the spotlight is on Every Dog Counts Rescue, which helps save dogs from high-kill shelters and provides medical care for those in need.
