THE DIGEST
Greenwood Community Schools Welcomes Students With Upgrades
It was back to school for many of the south side schools this week. One of those school districts was Greenwood - who welcomed students back with some upgrades.
These upgrades included security features, free lunch, a new aviation program through the Greenwood Airport.
For more information, watch the full news story here.
Indianaâs School Cell Phone Ban
Indiana had a new law that went into effect that banned âportable wireless devices â from classrooms, except for a teacher allowing them for educational purposes, managing a studentâs health care needs, or in an emergency.
Alongside this ban, many of the local school districts have their own policies in place.
Center Groveâs cell phone policy says that students can use their devices before and after school, during lunch breaks and in between classes as long as it does not create a distraction to the learning environment.
Clark Pleasant has adapted the same language as the Indiana law.
Greenwood High Schoolâs policy is that cellphones are not allowed to be on a student during class time and must be stored in a book bag or designated area in the classroom, but they are allowed to be used during passing periods, lunch and during âPowerHourâ with a teacherâs permission.
Perry Townshipâs current electronic devices policy states that cellphones are allowed to be used in schools with school official authorization.
At Franklin, students may carry a cellphone, but student cell phones are expected to be off, out of sight and not in use.
Franklinâs Hops & Vines Festival is Next Weekend!
