THE DIGEST
Imagination Library Launches $1M Matching Campaign to Sustain Free Book Program
The Imagination Library of Johnson County (ILJC) has launched a $1 million matching campaign to offset the loss of state funding for its free early literacy program. The Johnson County Community Foundation pledged $500,000 to match donations dollar-for-dollar, aiming to create a permanent endowment for ILJC. Since 2017, the program has mailed over 218,000 free books to local children from birth to age five, with nearly 4,800 kids currently enrolled. With the communityās help, this campaign could ensure every child continues to have access to free books and a lifelong love of reading.
Bargersville Fire Introduces Community Connect to Improve Emergency Response
Bargersville Fire has launched a new online tool called Community Connect to help first responders better serve residents during emergencies. This secure questionnaire lets homeowners, renters, and even businesses share important details like household members, pets, bedroom locations, medical needs, and potential hazards such as oxygen tanks or propane. Firefighters can access the information only during an active 911 call, ensuring privacy while improving response times and safety. For those not comfortable with technology, Bargersville Fire is offering assistance to help residents set up their profiles.
