Home insurance rates up by 76% in some states

Over the last 6 years, home insurance rates have increased by up to 76% in some states. Between inflation, costlier repairs, and extreme weather, premiums are climbing fast – but that doesn’t mean you have to overpay. Many homeowners are saving hundreds a year by switching providers. Check out Money’s home insurance tool to compare companies and see if you can save.

It’s Wednesday, November 5th!

And if you’re wondering how it’s already November 5th... same.

The Halloween decorations are still half up, Thanksgiving plans are creeping in, and if you’re still finding candy wrappers in your coat pockets, you’re not alone. We’ve got a packed newsletter today, so grab your coffee, clear your inbox (or at least pretend), and let’s get into it.

In today’s South Side Scoop:

  • 🎉 A big thank-you to everyone who filled out the South Side Scoop reader survey and congrats to our gift card winners!

  • 🍹 Greenwood officially approves a downtown DORA district, letting visitors enjoy drinks while strolling through the heart of Old Town.

  • 🥤 A new fizz-tastic addition is coming to Wanamaker: Fizz’n Soda Shop opens this week with handcrafted sodas and fun, bubbly vibes.

Let’s get to it!

THE DIGEST

Thank You, Scoop Readers!

A huge thank-you to everyone who took the time to fill out our reader survey last week! Your feedback helps us plan future editions and make the Scoop even better for our southside community. We truly appreciate your input, and as a small token of our thanks, we randomly selected three survey participants to receive $20 gift cards! I would love to shout out your first names, but my brain skipped over that question so I only have email addresses. If you see your email listed below, keep an eye on your inbox. We’ll be in touch soon with your prize!

Congrats to our winners! mmain@ | Clavery56@ | myersa@

Greenwood OKs Downtown DORA

Greenwood’s city council voted 5–3 to create a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) downtown, allowing people to carry alcoholic drinks in approved cups within set boundaries along Madison Avenue (Fry Rd. to Smith Valley Rd.), around Market Plaza/Main Street, and through Old City Park and Craig Park. The DORA will operate daily from noon to midnight; participating businesses and temporary event vendors must apply, serve drinks in special DORA cups, and follow volume limits per drink. Ten Old Town businesses have already applied, and signage will mark where the DORA begins and ends. Greenwood is the second Johnson County community to adopt a DORA (after Bargersville).
